Sažetak
Various types of hybrid drives are increasingly being applied in transportation. Wing sails can give additional propulsion to the motor driven ship in order to decrease fossil fuel consumption. This article is a contribution to the selection and consideration of the influencing parameters for application of wing sails for ship propulsion. Basic development factors and application of wing sails are described. Influential parameters and heir relations are described. These parameters are connected with physical and mechanical properties of the wing sails and their impact on propulsion. It is important to recognize the certain contribution of every influential parameter in relation to the final achievement. Parameters are ranked and described for a several common types of sail, in order to find the best solution. Changing values of the influencing parameters on wing sails can significantly increase converted wind energy. Aim was to point out the parameters that influence the wing sail to drive ships more efficiently. Their importance is explained in example based on the two most important sail types. Finally, some guides for structural and operational changes of future wing sails are given. This can help developers to drive their efforts in order to find better solution for ship propulsion.
