Sažetak
PREFACE: When I started to work as a lecturer at Faculty of Maritime Studies in Split, it soon became apparent that there was a need for a straightforward English course book that would provide texts and exercises for undergraduate students acquiring competencies related to maritime management, shipping, shipbuilding, yachts and marina technologies, environment preservation, nautical tourism, small craft navigation etc. Therefore I began compiling information, texts, photographs and sketches on the subject of these study programmes. Now that the material has been processed and turned into a book, I would gladly welcome any helpful comments or suggestions. My intention is not to teach the students how to become good seamen or businessmen but to improve their language skills, which would make it possible for them to excel in their respective maritime fields. Technical aspects of the textbook, in this case, mainly serve the purpose of language acquisition. Tomislav Skračić, MA Split, July 2010
