Sažetak
The aspects of development of tourism and hotel management in Republic of Croatia in this paper are connected with the ecological principal of sustainable development. Preservation of environmental values should be, among other things, fundamental prerequisite of sustainable development of hotel management in Republic of Croatia and exactly through implementation of eco-standards in the hotel business. In Republic of Croatia there are no uniform standards in hotel construction, there is extremely high energy consumption in hotels, and they are significant environmental pollutants. The application of eco-standards in the hotel management is still on a voluntary basis and it depends on the initiative of the hotel managers. The aim of this study was to review the level of implementation of eco-standards in the business of leading Croatian hotel chains. Empirical research on a sample of leading Croatian hotel chains wants to prove that the implementation of eco-standards in the business of leading Croatian hotel chains depends on informed and educated hoteliers and those hotel managers of the leading Croatian hotel chains who do not apply voluntary eco-standards in its operations but are familiar with them.
