Sažetak
In this paper the results of the investigations performed on the Croatian and Slovenian rivers and lasting several years (from 1975 to 1982) are presented. From the results of the performed investigations it can be concluded that it is possible to determine the intensity of pollution of running waters on the basis of the analysis of Oligochaeta . populations in the biocoenosis of the river beds. Thus the river Sava. upstream from Krško, is lightly polluted while the part of it downstream from Krško is moderately polluted. However, the section of the Sava from the point where the main collector of Zagreb discharges into the river up to Sisak, is heavily and almost uniformly polluted. Downstream from the mouth of the river Kupa the degree of pollution is much lower than in its upstream part. This is because of the influence of more lightly loabed waters of the Kupa and because of the processes of self—purification. The investigations also included the rivers: Kupa, Korana, Mrežnica. Dobra. Krka, Mirna, Raša. Novčića and Jadova. The upper sections of the rivers Kupa, Novčića, Mirna and Raša are clean or very lightly polluted at the points of sampling. The same is true for Mrežnica, Dobra. Korana and Jadova. Only in those parts of the streams which are downstream from some source of pollution, towns for example, the degree of pollution is higher. Thus the river Kupa is polluted to a more considerable degree downstream from Metlika, the Krka in its downstream part and the Novčića downstream of Gospić. The especially high degree of pollution of the river Raša at the second station is caused by the waste waters of the cattlefarm, situated upstream from this station.
