Sažetak
As a part of large ecological investigations on the rivers Korana, Mrežnica, Dobra, Kupa and Krka (the republic of Slovenia) during the years 1981 and 1982 the population of amphipods (Amphipoda) which are most numerous were analyzed in detail, especially the species Gammarus fossarum Koch, while the species Gammarus roeseli Gervais was found only in the river Krka and makes only 14% of the population of amphipods. The density of population varies in space and seasons. On the average the largest number of amphipods was found in June (47 individuals/dm2) and the smallest in February (7). There are remarkable differences in the density of populations in various biocenoses, so that in the periphyton there is an average number of 25 individuals/dm2 and in the biocenoses of the river bed 13 individuals/dm2. In all seasons and stations young individuals were also found. This fact shows that the amphipods in the investigated running waters breed during the whole year. However, the share of the young individuals is considerably larger in May and June than in February and October when the low temperature and short days slow down the process of breeding and development. Young individuals are mostly found in periphyton and adult in the biocenoses of the river bed.
