Sažetak
The institution of the Military Border, according to it's specific constitution and meaning in the Habsburg Monarchy, very early drew attention of many researchers and intellectuals across Europe. From the second half of the 18th century, through dissemination of humanities (etnographical, linguistic, cultural and statistical studies), the Military Border becomes the subject of scientific interest. Among those works encyclopedic entries are considered to be the scientific peak of that period. The main aim of our report is to analyze the way of representation, synthesis and construction of identities of space and people of the Military Border in the first half of the 19th century. As the main source we are going to use encyclopedias and lexicons from the Habsburg Monarchy, and supplementary we are going to compare these encyclopedic entries with congenial works of other authors from the Habsburg Monarchy. The encyclopedic entries' authors use datas from contemporary statistical books, etnographical studies, scientific magazines and press. Our article will try to show from which point of view Austrian lexicographers see and represent the Military Border in the first half of the 19th century.
