Sažetak
The interstitial underground waters of the quaternary aquifers along the middle flow of the river Sava (734.4—622 km) were investigated for 20 months in order to find out the possible dependence of their ecological characteristics on the quality of the overground flow of the river Sava, which is heavily polluted here. A considerable number of physical and chemical parameters were determined and bacteriological and faunal analyses of the underground waters were performed according to its qualitative and quantitative composition and its distribution in space. On the basis of this, several underground facies were distinguished, which are basically determined by the hydrogeological conditions of the locality and the characteristic combinations of biotic and abiotic factors, which are partly a result of the pollution of the river.
