Sažetak
Intercultural language learning has become an important focus of modern language education in preparing students for global literacy and for living in a multicultural world putting thus an end to English linguistic imperialism, which is a part of linguicism. By employing intercultural language teaching, students are taught to acquire competences that will enable them to interpret culture both in its external aspect, explicitly learned and easily changed, and in its internal aspect, which is unconscious, difficult to change, often called the "deep culture". This paper offers guidelines for implementing intercultural teaching into the existing curriculum of ESP courses and explains why and how intercultural language teaching helps students become aware of stereotypes leading to prejudices towards other cultures, languages and varieties.
