Sažetak
Early documentary movies produced in Yugoslavia during the late 1940s and 1950s, e.g. Zoran Markuš’s 100 dana u Brezi [100Days in Breza] and Rudolf Sremc’s Događaj u Raši [An Event in Raša] represent milestones in the process of constructing the potent image of Yugoslav socialist shock-workers, particularly miners. Beside movie’s pedagogical and ideological aspects the shift from the latter two is made towards workers aestheticized body through several short but impressive scenes, filmed in an erotically suggestive manner. Marsha Bryant referred to the similar phenomenon present in documentaries on British colliers as “class voyeurism”. From this point of view the 1970s mark a turning point in the representation of shock workers, by that time they became worthless residue of early “official” socialism and attractive material for artists and filmmakers, who re-discovered the movement and turned it into an instrument of criticism of the system. Yugoslav and Polish directors Bahrudin Čengić and Andrzej Wajda in their films Slike iz života udarnika/Images from the life of a shock worker (1972), Czlowiek z marmuru/Man of marble (1977) (but also Italian Elio Petri La Classe operaia va in paradiso/Lulù the tool (1972)) respectively, re-sign the work heroism. A stratum of their criticism is carried throug bodily and social desintegration of prominent shock workers, showing them broken, ill and finally half hearted. In the range of 20 years their image within the same systems changed completely, primarly by virtue of this movies.
