Sažetak
The laboratory experiments dealing with the effects of sudden temperature rise on several benthic animals were carried out within the framework of a complex biocenotical, saprobiological and physico-chemical research of the River Sava downstream of Zagreb in the region of Oborovo-Tišina. Such an abrupt temperature rise may be produced by the discharge of cooling waters. A general scheme of these effects on life-cycles, behaviour, mortality etc. is known. Several authors showed effects on egg-laying periods, sexual maturity, copulation, duration of postembryonal development and metamorphosis of individual species as well as of groups of invertebrates under consideration in this investigation. The aim of our research was to learn the possible consequences on selected populations of the Sava River, their reactions and tolerance limits. It is difficult to correlate the laboratory results with processes in the natural environment, but such studies give at least some basic information.
