Sažetak
From 1996-2002 we followed up 298 children, aged 10.7±3.04 years, 81 healthy (Control) and 217 children with mild and moderate asthma.121 were treated with: inhaled steroid (IS: fluticasone propionate 100-200 mcg daily), 31 with salbutamol (S: 100-200 mcg daily as needed) and 65 with ketotifen (KF: 2 mg daily). During treatment we measured levels of total and specific IgE antibodies (radioimmunoassay method) in repeated measurements 1-4. We analysed % changes IgE2 toward IgE1 (IgE1-IgE2/IgE1%) and significant lower levels of IgE in IS toward higher levels in KF and S were found (p: 0.014). Change of IgE2 toward IgE3 is not different among groups (p: 0.108), but IgE1 is significant different in decreasing in IS toward S (p: 0.05). In IS 32% of children showed lower class of specific IgE antibodies on Dp between 1 and 2 measurements (Dp1 and Dp2), against KF (13.9%) and S (1%), while change for the worse showed in KF (46.5%), S (66.7) and IS (25%) ; p: 0.00089. Between 3 and 1 measurements (Dp3 towards Dp1) improvement presented 27% in IS, 9.5% in KF and 0% in S ; p: 0.0018. Conclusion: While other therapies (S and KF) elevated serum levels of total and specific IgE antibodies on Dp, IS therapy (fluticasone propionate 100-200 mcg daily) cut down significantly their levels.
