Sažetak
Phraseology as a discipline studies different sets of expressions, phraseological units. Scholars have shown great interest in phraseology ; however it is a relatively new discipline in Western studies. Soviet scholars were studying the discipline and Polivanov was the first to raise the question about it. They considered that the discipline was important enough to be studied as an independent one. Soviet scholars first introduced the term phraseological unit. Phraseological units are used in conversation, newspapers, literature, as well as in television. Classifications proposed by Sabine Fiedler and L.P. Smith have been used for the analysis of the idioms from TV series Downton Abbey. Idioms have been analyzed according to their origin by the above mentioned classifications since they are most adaptable. Five extracted idioms have been analyzed as idioms containing body parts using Fiedler’s classification of phraseological units with special elements. The analysis has shown that, when it comes to the origin of the idioms used in TV series, twenty seven idioms out of fifty have been analyzed according to their origin within Fiedler’s classification and nineteen idioms have been recognized and analyzed based on their origin within Smith’s classification. With the exception of five idioms, the greatest number out of fifty idioms has been recognized and analyzed within classifications based on their origin.
