Sažetak
The aim of research is to determinate the role and importance of rural women through diversified rural activities in order to promote local development. Diversified rural activities are directed towards rural tourism through sustainable development in order to evaluate rural area, tradition, customs, cultural and historical heritage. This paper is based on empirical research as well as on secondary analyses of previously published papers and statistical publications about different problems of rural women and local development. Rural areas are affected with significant changes last years. Those changes are mostly related to agricultural policy reform ; reform of the European Union structural funds, empowerment of rural development policies, foreign trade liberalization, technological changes what is connected with the entire globalization process but with focus on local identity. The involvement of rural women as significant participant in local development through rural tourism, the production of traditional products, different forms of services will have a significant impact on economic, social and functional structure of rural areas. Experience economy is oriented towards customers, the main actor that should have active participation in order to create memorable experiences in rural areas. Practical application of this paper relates to the identification, implementation and development of diversified rural activates to the rural-regional characteristics that are adjust to women in rural areas. Rural women as active participants of local development can influence on the increasing competitiveness of rural areas.
