Sažetak
During the process of tanning and manufacturing, a raw hide changes its properties and chemical structure. Changes of chemical structure, related to removing some components of live tissues, like globular proteins, fats or serum and adding or bonding of auxilliaries like tannages, fat-liquors, limings, finishers, etc., could be analysed using diffrent analytical techniques and methods.
One of the most powerful techniques is the structural analysis of complex materials, infrared spectroscopy (IR), has been used in leather research for many years. Developments made in the field of measurement of reflected light and the introduction of fast Fourier transform (FT) techniques have established new methods and their applications have been described recently.
