Sažetak
Alzheimer Disease Societies Croatia (ADSC), as a main organizer, along with the support of the Croatian Society for Clinical Psychiatry, CMA and the Croatian Society for Neuroscience has decided to organize the 3rd Croatian Congress on Alzheimer's disease with international participation, to highlight the fact of a tremendous growth of people affected by Alzheimer's dementia (AD) in modern societies. This being the year of the lOOth anniversary when the disease recognition is marked worldwide, we have decided to join the celebrations and set up an exhibition of sculpture constructs "In Honor of Alois Alzheimer" by our colleague Assist. Prof. Dr. Eduard Pavlović. To get a broader picture of AD, which will certainly become a priority medical problem of the 21st century, it was decided that the Congress should focus on three aspects: basic sciences, clinical science and self-support groups. Each of these topics will be presented by distinguished invited speakers. We are honored that the Congress will be open with a lecture by Christine McGregor, representative of Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), the umbrella organization the ADSC recently joined as a provi-sional member. It is also a great honor for the organizer that Dr. Jack Diamond, Scientific Director of Alzheimer Society of Canada will present an educational lay-lec-ture on AD. Throughout this meeting, we shall have a chance to hear about the most recent results of the European and Croatian neuroscience research, and respected international and national clinicians will inform us about new pharmacological treat-ments and care for people with dementia. The Congress program has been set up in a way that it offers a comprehensive approach to AD on a daily basis and gives a unique chance to experts and ali interested and involved persons coming from various profes-sions to exchange information and experiences. After each session of lectures, we have left a significant amount of time for questions and discussions from which the partici-pants may beneflt the most. Since we did not want parallel lectures, a large number of submitted papers will be presented in poster form, which will remain mounted from opening tili closing of the Congress, and will be discussed during coffee-breaks. We would like this Congress to become organized biannually here on the Brijuni islands, makirig it traditional and unique focal point in Croatia, fostering a comprehensive and holistic approach to AD, bringing together ali relevant Croatian and numer-ous international experts and ali persons involved in AD and related fields.
