Sažetak
The development of ports, berths and terminals is oriented to their specialisation for handling certain types of goods, i.e. for handling goods in accordance with a certain transportation technology, and their reorientation into logistic centres. Logistic centres operate in accordance with the advanced logistic standards and can satisfy demands of an increasing number of customers who expect the goods to be additionally treated during distribution, precisely at terminals while waiting for further transportation. Greater efficiency of the products and their utility value with a maximally correct price are achieved with optimal organisation of distribution, storage and transportation of goods, made possible by the development of well-organised and adequately equipped logistic centres. National governments of the transition countries should elaborate the right strategies and thus direct the development of ports, berths and terminals so as to satisfy the world market requirements. This would create new possibilities for the economies of the transition countries and "strengthen" their position in the world.
