Sažetak
In recent years there has been a dramatic increase in the use of electronic goods such as mobile telephones, computers and gaming systems. The increase in the amounts of WEEE, that is today three times greater than the increase of municipal waste, has a significant influence on the environment. This is precisely why it is necessary to manage it in an ecologically and economically acceptable way. The components, i.e. the dangerous substances that are the integral part of many electrical and electronic devices, render this category of waste as significant environmental risk and a source of contamination and pollution. Regarding the consumer mentality that has led to the fact that people today are buying numerous new electrical and electronic devices regardless of whether the “old” ones are functioning properly or not, the public has to be included in fulfilling the targets and tasks in the field of WEEE management. It is very important to build up the awareness about environmental preservation by proper WEEE disposal starting from the youngest ones, the schoolchildren, since in this way the behaviour of adults can be influenced as well. Regarding the importance of raising the awareness and education of children, an information campaign was carried out in the area of the city of Velika Gorica, at four primary schools, four secondary schools and at the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica. The paper will give a presentation about the campaign and the achieved results.
