Sažetak
A short introduction to some issues in the descriptive approach to language and various areas of linguistic study is followed by Part 2 dealing with definition, forms and types of verbs. Parts 4-5 focus on the grammatical categories of English verbs such as tense and aspect, mood and modality, as well as voice. Each of the eleven chapters has the same general organization. Chapters open with a basic overview of descriptive statements, which is followed by a selection of (theoretically more demanding) topics for further optional discussion. All the chapters have a reading section. Each chapter ends with a number of exercises and discussion questions.
