Sažetak
The research was done on placentas of physiological pregnancies divided into two age groups, according to pregnancy duration: the first group from the 38th to 39th week (12 placentas) and the second in the 40th week (11 placentas) of pregnancy. Quantitative results have shown that the volume density and total volume of trophoblast are significantly higher in the 40th week (P<0.025).In some structurally differentiated parts of syncytiotrophoblast, the following quantitatively stated changes were observed: between the 38th and the 39th week the volume and surface density of alpha zones were significantly higher than in the 40th week (P<0.01), when the volume density and total volume of beta zones prevailed significantly (P<0.005). After quantitative analysis of syncytiotrophoblast by stereologic methods we made our own electron microscopic analysis and we consider that the cytomorphological differentiation of ultrastructural elements of beta zones is easily observable on electron micrographs. Hense, we suppose that the quantitative analysis may be performed on electron micrographs by stereological methods in a technically appropriate way.
