Sažetak
The dissertation deals with Croatian words in the area of Internet terminology. It describes ways in which Internet terms come into being in the Croatian language. In the first part, ways of word formation in the Croatian language are presented, including lexical borrowing, adaptation of loan words, with anglicisms in focus. Formation of anglicisms are dealt with in detail, referring to orthography, transphonemisation, transmorphemisation, and adaptation of morphological categories of anglicisms. Semantics of anglicisms has been dealt with as well. There is special group of words that have their particularities. Thus, phrases, abbreviations, anglicisms in plural and hybrids were described in the process of lexical borrowing. The major part is dedicated to the development of Internet terminology. It is based upon a research of journals and books in the period from 1994 to 2000. Thus two major types of comparisons have been made: first compares word forms in books with those in journals, and the other compares development and changing of forms within the six-year period. The majority of words is borrowed from English. There is a number of ways and processes in which Croatian Internet terms are adjusted when borrowed from the English language: foreign form of the English original can be preserved; the Croatian formed can be based upon pronunciation and orthography of the English language and adapted to the Croatian system; and sometimes some of the morphemes are literally translated. The meaning is rarely borrowed in its full range; it is usually only part of the meaning that is acquired.
