Sažetak
The main purpose of our investigation was to examine, quantitatively, structural heterogeneity within the parenchyma of human placenta. The examination was concentrated on some structural components of terminal villi, especially on syncytiotrophoblast with various differentiated parts (alpha and beta zones, syncytial knots), placental fibrinoid and a villous stroma , its blood vessels and intervillous space. There was no evidence of statistically significant difference for most of the examined structures: terminal villi, alpha and beta zones, villous stroma and intervillous space. Nevertheless, syncytial knots, fibrinoid and villous blood vessels were exceptions. Knots, surface density, fibrinoids, volume and surface density and blood vessels, specific surface density decreased significantly toward the region of cord insertion. Knots, volume density increased toward this reggion.
