Sažetak
During dynamic development of placental villi some specialized areas in syncytiotrophoblast are differentiated. Their anuclear flattened parts are alpha zones. They lie on fetal capillaries forming together the vasculosyncytial membranes. These areas are considered to be the sites of gas exchange in both direction.This investigation was undertaken on 30 human term placentas of physiological pregnancy and delivery.Stereological analysis was performed. The region of the umbilical cord insertion compared to the peripheral part have a 5% lower surface density of terminal villi, 14% higher surface density of the alpha zone and 4% higher surface density of villous blood capillaries.
