Sažetak
Ranitidine was administered p.o.or intraperidoneally, and prednisone only p.o. to female Wistar rats, daily for 10 consecutive days. ChE activity in the plasma was determined spectrophotometrically by the method of Ellman et al. The results show that ChE inhibition by ranitidine is dependent upon route od administration. Prednisone (2.5 mg/kg/day) did not show inhibitory effect on rat plasma ChE, but the inhibitory effect of ranitidine after concurrent administration with prednisone was significantly reduced. Larger doses of prednisone (4 mg//kg daily) decreased rat plasma ChE activity significantly. After simultaneous administration with the same oral dose of ranitidine the effect of both drugs on plasma ChE was abolished. Contrary to this evident interaction after oral application of both drugs, when ranitidine was applied i.p. no interaction with oral prednisone occurred: in this case the total effect on ChE activity approximately equalled the sum of the effects obtained after administration of each drug alone. Further studies are in progress to establish the site of ranitidine-prednisone interaction after their concurrent oral administration.
