Sažetak
This paper discusses the main elements of the EU immigration and asylum policies, particularly in the context of the Union's relations with the CEECs, and outlines their implications for the future developments in the field of the asylum and immigration in Croatia. Within the framework of the Stabilisation and Association Process, Croatia has recently started addressing a series of issues of the very complex and still emerging area of EU justice and home affairs, including the asylum and immigration matters. The ever growing number of illegal immigrants, the lack of adequate legal and institutional framework as well as the insufficient training of public officials working in this field are among the most important challenges Croatia will have to face in the nearest future.
