Sažetak
Central Lika lies within a spacious basin, nestled between Velebit and the Lika-Krbava Sredogorje. It is the central part of Lika, largest mountainous region of Croatia. More than a third of Lika’s total population lives in Central Lika, and its center, GospiÊ (pop. 6008, 2001) is the largest settlement in Lika and the capital of the Lika- Senj county. GospiÊ, as well as most of Lika, has seen a lot of devastation during the Homeland war which further facilitated the decades long depopulation and economic stagnation of this sparsely populated region. Can post-war reconstruction efforts, the arrival of the motorway and the value of Lika’s plentiful natural resources create a new and necessary prospect for development?
