Sažetak
Mycotoxins are natural contaminants of cereals and other commodities all round the world. They are produced by various strains of moulds particularly in tropical countries. Due to significant trade of cereals humans could be exposed to mycotoxins in temperate countries also. Exposure to mycotoxins is mostly by ingestion, but also occurs by dermal, inhalation and parenteral routes. Apart acute and chronic toxic effect on human health called mycotoxicoses, some mycotoxins are proved or suspected to be human carcinogens. This paper describes various human diseases caused by ergot, aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, 3-nitropropionic acid, trichothecenes, zearalenone and fumonisins. It also informs about human carcinogenicity evaluations given by International Agency for Research on Cancer and about the regulatory limits of mycotoxin concentrations in various commodities
