Sažetak
Family relationships and family itself represent an important factor in prevention of addiction. Dysfunction and pathology of the family increase the risk of addiction. Multi-year researches with the goal to improve the prevention of addiction confirmed that family dysfunction is very common in the anamnesis of addicts. The literature mentions several types of families at risk for developing addiction in children: 1. overprotective families that may be possessive and symbiotic as well as authoritative and controlling. 2. too liberal families without strict limits where children are allowed to do whatever they want 3. destroyed families and families with severe problems in their relationships. Chaotic family relationships, lack of parent-child bond and lack of parental upbringing are some of the risk factors for the development of family- related addiction. Family related protective factors include strong and positive family relationships, clear rules of behaviour, parental involvement in the life and activities of their children. The role of family is very important in prevention of addiction development in terms of parental upbringing and education with clearly defined boundaries, parent-child relationship based on unconditional love as well as family atmosphere that develops self-esteem of children and in which the
