Sažetak
A new application of natural zeolites (NZ) in sewage treatment is presented in this paper. The aim of this study was to investigate the enhanced performances of upgraded activated sludge system with NZ addition ; particularly as far as phosphorus removal, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and sludge characteristics. Two experimental studies were run ; an upgraded activated sludge system with NZ addition and a conventional activated sludge system, run as control unit. The results point to the possibility of successful phosphorus and COD removal from wastewater by activated sludge bioaugmented with phosphorus accumulating bacteria using NZ as a support material.
