Sažetak
ABSTRACT Background: The aim of this study was to find prognostical evidence which could be linked with the speed and the state of patients' recovery with unilateral tinnitus treated with Low Level Laser. Materials and methods: The study included 42 patients suffering from monolateral or bilateral tinnitus more than 3 months prior to Low Level Laser treatment (LLLT) with no concomitant treatments for tinnitus. Audiological treatment was done preliminarily, including a audiometry, tympanometry and brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER). The patients were treated with Low Lewel Laser (wave-lenght 650 nm, output 50 mW) for 10 sessions, 2-3 sessions per week, twenty minutes per session. The tinnitus was measured before and after the treatment with Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Tinitus Handicap Inventory (THI). Results: All 42 patients completed LLLT which was well tolerated. Significant improvement of tinnitus intensity showed 61.9% of treated patients in VAS score, and 67, 7 patients in THI. Latency of wave III and interwave interval I-V in BAER have shown good correlation with a degree of patient's recovery. Conclusion: These facts indicate that in the future, latency of wave III and interwave interval I-V in BAER could be used prognostically. A further randomized placebo- controlled trials are mandatory for clinical evaluation of those potentialy important prognostic factors for LLLT.
