Sažetak
The paper treats evaluation of the statistical optimum underwater passive detection of the vessel noise in the presence of deep-sea ambient noise. The vessel underwater noise is supposed to be an extremely weak Gaussian stochastic process composed as a sum of two statistical independent parts. One part is due to vessel cavitation phenomenon and another part is due to vessel operating machinery, mechanisms and propeller(s). The deep-sea ambient noise is supposed to be a Gaussian stochastic process as well. The paper considers statistical optimum detection of the vessel noise by means of the likelihood ratio statistical test and the Neyman-Pearson criterion. The mathematical models of the power spectral densities referring to the vessel noise and to the deep-sea ambient noise are the starting points of the evaluation process. The mathematical model of the power spectral density referring to the vessel noise consists of a nonwhite wide-band component due to vessel cavitation and of a finite number of narrow-band components due to operating machinery, mechanisms and propeller(s), being the sources of fundamentals tones in the vessel underwater noise. The mathematical model of the power spectral density referring to the deep-sea ambient noise is a nonwhite wide-band component.
