Sažetak
In the early nineties of the last century, Europeanization emerged as a key theme in studies of the European union. Its importance has grown as scholar have sought to give more precise meaning to a term. They began to analyse and explain the process of Europeanization and study the effects of the European governance on the national policies of countries affected by the process of integration. Impact of the European integration process on public policy creation in the Member States, as well as on their political and administrative structures, has been ever growing. The notion of Europeanization implies the impact of the European Union and the Council of Europe on the three national dimensions: politics (representation and participation), policy (energy, health, educational, transport, environmental policy, etc.) and polity (political institutions, judiciary, public administration, economic institutions, state traditions, etc.). The author is going to analyse the impacts of Europeanization on Croatian local self-government and try to answer the question whether the local government units are following the European trends. European principles and standards regulating local government will be systemized by analyzing the official documents of the European Union and the Council of Europe. The main criteria for systematization of the principles and standards are going to be the dimensions of their impact on domestic structures. The author will then analyze the constitutional and legal framework of local self-government in the Republic of Croatia and examine the degree of its compliance with European principles and standards. A critical review of the research results would be stated in the concluding discussion.
