Sažetak
During the last thirty years, there has been significant development of study approaches and methods used for the analysis of clothing artifacts. As witnesses of certain historical periods, clothing artifacts have been observed and analyzed through interdisciplinary approaches, particularly emphasized in the method developed by Janet Arnold. This method was applied and expanded by two renowned dress historians, Lou Taylor and Anna Reynolds. Using historical and artistic analysis, as well as comparative method and technical analysis, they were successful in dating and attributing clothing artifacts discovered in various sites. Their documentation and categorization methods will be applied to a clothing artifact belonging to the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb. The subject under discussion is a women’s jacket-bodice made of blue damask decorated with gold lace dating from the end of the 17th century. The artifact was approximately dated, but has not been subjected to scientific interest and detailed analysis until now. Its analysis will explore archival data specifying the term jacket-bodice, followed by comparative and technical analysis used to determine the artifact’s categorization and typology. The analysis will refer to garment construction as well as its decorative features in order to indicate the characteristics of baroque art manifested in fashion.
