Sažetak
In 1927 the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb launched a project of collecting Arabic-script manuscripts and Ottoman documents in Bosnia and Herzegovina for its newly established Oriental collection. The German Turkologist Franz Babinger was entrusted with the task of purchising materials, and in 1929 he was succeeded by the Russian Turkologist Aleksei Olesnicki. The paper examines the Orientalist features of the attitude of the two collectors towards the local owners of manuscripts and their observations about the conditions in which the manuscripts had been kept in Bosnia. Furthermore, the then allegations that Babinger used to take advantage of posessing the Academy's letter of recommendation in order to buy manuscripts for collectors in Germany are also examined.
