Sažetak
The economic situation in the Republic of Croatia and its accession to technologically more developed countries of the European Union necessarily call for some important changes in the higher education system. This is above all related to the increasing need to train students in a more efficient application of the knowledge acquired during studying. Therefore the mathematical educational at the faculties of technology needs to be directed towards the application of mathematical knowledge in practice. In accordance with the above-stated, this paper provides guidelines needed to improve the quality of the teaching of mathematics at the faculties of technology. This approach is in line with the latest trends in higher education in the European Union and the United States of America where the mathematical knowledge represents the basis for the rapid development of new technologies.
