Sažetak
Introduction: As part of my PhD research, a new cohort of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients is established, undergoing the assessment of mood disorders before CPAP therapy, and 1 month, 3 moths, 6 months and 12 months after CPAP therapy. First part of the research is the validation of the Croatian version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-HR) in a population of patients with OSA, insomnia and healthy subjects. The aim of the cohort study is to determine the quality of sleep, depression, anxiety, and quality of life in OSA patients before CPAP therapy, and during the first six months after the beginning of CPAP therapy. The predictive value of the patients’ quality of sleep, depression, anxiety, quality of life and socio-demographic characteristics in compliance for CPAP device will also be established in the current research. Methods: All the research is being performed at the Split Sleep Medicine Center. Currently, all OSA patients included in the research at Split Sleep Medicine Center undergo a whole night polysomnography before the use of CPAP. Depressive symptoms of all subjects included in the cohort is being assessed with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II). Anxiety is being assessed using a State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Also, quality of life is being assessed with the SF-36 questionnaire (SF-36). All questionnaires are available in Croatian language. Sleep quality is being assessed with Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), which has been translated at Split Sleep Medicine Center and is in the process of validation in Croatian language on OSA patients as a part of this project. Results: Baseline data has been collected (PSQI, BDI-II, SF-36, PSQI) as a part of the cohort study during December (2013th) and January (2014th). Results after 1 month and 3 months follow-up screening will be included in the poster presentation at the Sleep Medicine summer school in Oxford.
