Sažetak
According to past experience, cultural heritage in Croatia deteriorates due to age, accumulat- ed damage and lack of maintenance during its life cycle. A large number of these historical structures is located in the coastal area where the safety of structures, regarding aggressive marine environment, presents an additional risk. Therefore, earlier damage detection can pre-vent deterioration, preservation and reconstruction of the structures. One of such structures of historical importance which is a part of historic core of Diocletian`s Palace in Split is pre-sented in this paper. Monitoring system is a part of conservation, restoration and reconstruc-tion procedures which were performed during the last ten years on the structure of the Peri-style. Installation of the monitoring system was carried out in two phases. First phase of the research included assessment of embedded material, bearing stone and copper clamps, which was conducted during 2012. At the end of 2012, through the second phase of research Facul-ty of Civil Engineering Department of Engineering Mechanics has installed structural health monitoring system. Structural health monitoring of Peristyle is based on static measurement of displacement, strain and temperature. Monitoring consists of very high sensitive sensors, such as linear variable differential transformers (LVDT) and strain gauges. Data recordings as well as software support are available to monitor at remote location via the internet. Aim of monitoring is the early detection of structural damage, that timely alert the system and in such way prevents further degradation of structure.
