Sažetak
Objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Besides the lung abnormalities, COPD is now recognized to be a condition that has an impact on other organs, the so-called systemic effects and comorbidities of COPD. Aim of the study was to estimate prevalence of comorbidities in patients with COPD. Methods: Consecutive patients with COPD treated in Department for Respiratory Diseases Jordanovac, University Hospital Center Zagreb were included in the study. Medical history was taken and severity of COPD was estimated as well as number of comorbidities. Result: Total number of patients was 385 (males 262, 68% and females 123, 32%) average age 61.25 years. Majority of patient were in GOLD stage II (41%) and III (19%). Comorbidities were present in 75% of patients, with 31% of patients with 1 comorbidity, 23% of patients had 2 comorbidities and 20% had 3 or more. Patients in stages II, III and IV have higher prevalences of comorbidities (more than 75% of pstients) comparing to stage I (60%). Most common comorbidities were: arterial hypertension (48%), cardiovascular diseases (26%), diabetes (16%), extrapulmonary neoplasms (11%), pulmonary hypertension (8%), osteoporosis (6%) and psychological disorders (5%). Conclusion: comorbidities were present in 75% of our COPD patient and were major problem. Most common comorbidities were arterial hypertension and cardiovascular disorders. High prevalnce of comorbidities rises question of better screening and treatment of comorbidities in that group of patients.
