Sažetak
Composition and distribution of habitat types in the Dinaric karst region of Croatia, and their suitability for various wild animals are presented. Characteristics of habitats were analysed in the hunting ground VIII/2 ‘Bjelolasica’, located in the north-western part of the Dinarides mountain system. This hunting ground of dinaric type has a total surface of 30 000 ha, and altitude range from 350 to 1534 m. Main game species are red deer, roe deer, wild boar and brown bear. Forests with share of 80% prevail in the structure of habitat types. The most widespread are dinaric beech and fir forests and sub-alpine beech forests. Mountain grasslands and pastures make 15.5%. The least with 0.6% is the presence of cultivated land around the settlements and freshwater habitats. Diversity of habitats is most suitable for the life needs of brown bear, followed by red deer, roe deer and wild boar.
