Sažetak
The target of the study: to compare the frequency, trend and the results of surgical treatment of consequences of peptic ulcer disease vvithin the period of ten years in Požega hospital. Methods: using the records of operations, the records of intensive treatments and the patients anamneses, the data about age, sex, types of operations, complications and mortality of the patinents operated on ulcer have been retrospectively compiled. Results: vvithin the pariod from 1 January 1995 to 31 December 2004 162 patients were operated because of the complications of ulcer disease, of vvhich 119 (73, 4%) were man and 43 (26, 6%) vvere vvomen. 102 (62, 9%) patinents were operated because of the ventricular or duodenal ulcer perforation, 34 (20, 9%) of patients vvere operated because of the ulcer bleeding and 26 (16, 2%) of patients vvere operated because of the stenosis or resistence to pharmacotherapy. A total of 22 (13, 6%) patinets died from complications. In the last five years (2000-2004) in has been noticed that the number of operated patinets has decreased, since 64(42, 6%) patinets vvere operated in this period compared to the previous period (1995-1999) when 93(57, 4%) patients vvere operated. Conclusion: although the modem pharmacotherapy has changed the approach and prognosis of the patinet vvith peptic ulcer disease, it is not always possible to avoid the surgical tratment, particularly at the patient vvith complications. The results of surgical treatment are certainly affected also by the fact that these are most often the patients in a very serious health condition who suffer from other diseases or are in an advanced age.
