Sažetak
Legislative aqnd scientific inputs for the water management plan are presented. It is emphasized that databases needed for planning are based on general water management guidelines, territorial information, profesional and research data on water resources, and on other socioeconomic plans. The water management plan is a crucial document that defines the strategy of water use, water ptotection and flood protection in catchment areas, river basins and on the national territory. In Croatia, the catchment area is the fundamental and natural unit in water protection and water use. The tebdency towards future joining to the European Union requires harmonization of management models, principles, plicies and standards governing the water sector with the standards set up by the European Union. Other planning segments and procedures are described along with the contents of the water management master plan.
