Sažetak
GIS is a booming technology for social scientific inquiry that has expanded research capabilities. The special nature of spatial data is rapidly increasing the availability of georeferenced information. Consequently, the ability to address questions with geographical analysis is becoming a key skill for professional staff in city management, health care analysis, law, consulting and government. Geographically coded information is essential for the harmonisation, comparison and presentation of the information needed for decision support at municipal and national levels. In order to introduce these methods in the practical work of the authorities concerned, both the informatics specialists and the users need appropriate training and software tools.
