Sažetak
The Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit emerged in the mid-13th century. The Order spreads rapidly, specially after recognition in 1308., and during the Middle Ages it was one of the most popular major religious orders in Hungarian Kingdom. This paper deal specifically with Pauline monasteries in medieval Slavonia, their establishment (before or after 1308.), characteristics and activities (for example selection of patrons, relations with the local community and ecclesiastic institutions, economic conditions). I present similarities and differences in relation to Pauline medieval monasteries on the territory of present Slovakia and Croatia as well, compare examples of some Slavonian and Slovakian medieval monasteries. Although Pauline monasteries in Slavonia (today's Croatia) have emerged over than 100 years earlier than in Slovakia, monastery's economy, selection of the patrons and even monastery's fate were very similar in both countries, regardless of geographical position. Most of medieval Pauline monastery were devastated during the Ottoman attack or collapses during the Reformation period, and, sadly, they were never rebuilt. However, some of them, like Croatian monasteries Remete and Lepoglava and Slovak Elefant and Marianka have survived and played a prominent role in modern history of the Paulist order.
