Sažetak
Phytoplankton composition and abundance were investigated in January, February, March, May and September 2012 at station P-1200 (max 1200m depth) situated in the open waters of the South Adriatic (60 km southwest of Dubrovnik). Samples for analysis of physico-chemical parameters and phytoplankton were taken using 5 L Niskin bottles from standard oceanographic depths. Phytoplankton was counted using an inverted light microscope with the method described by Utermöhl (1958) from preserved samples and analysed. The seasonal dynamics of major phytoplankton taxonomic groups is represented in relationship with hydrographic parameters and nutrients. Comparing with available data periodicity emerges in seasonal dynamic but deep convection events and changeable water inputs trough Strait of Otranto largely contribute to high year to year variability of environmental variables and phytoplankton structure.
