Sažetak
Hemp (Cannabis sativa) is one of the oldest cultivated crops in human history and the first written record on hemp grown and usage, founded in China, is estimated to be four thousand years old. During the history and due to its psychoactive effects, Cannabis was ascension to godhood, but its usage as recreational drug resulted with prohibition of hemp growing. Three species of Cannabis sativa are known: Cannabis Sativa planted for seeds, fiber and oil production ; Cannabis Indica primarily grown for isolation and usage of psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabis Ruderalis characterized by higher cannabidiol (CBD) content which possess wider scope of medical application without psychoactive effect. Hemp is traditionally grown and used for textile and paper industries for the last centuries in the Europe, but abuse as a drug and incompleteness and ambiguous interpretations on detrimental impact of THC, during the past decades, planting and usage of all hemp’s species was under strict control in most European countries. Results of recent studies about hemp cultivation on soil structure and nutrient content affected by crop rotation, therapeutics effects of hemp oil and seeds and significant production biomass, entitle hemp as one of the important and profitable crop in the future.
