Sažetak
The paper analyzes three Allied conferences at the end of World War II – namely those in Dumbarton Oaks, Yalta and San Francisco – based on the primary documentary sources of the Croatian State Archives (HDA), the published transcripts of the conferences held in late 1944 and early 1945, as well as articles from the daily and periodical press of the Independent State of Croatia (the NDH). It elucidates the views of the Ustasha government regarding the realities of war and politics at the end of WW2, their relationship with the Soviets and the Western Allies, and lends insight into the mode of work and operation of political propaganda in the press of the Independent State of Croatia. During the final months of the war, the author concludes, the Ustasha government tried to prove through newspaper articles that the Allied Forces suffered from internal strife and that the joint warfare of the USA, the UK and the USSR was absurd. There was an attempt to persuade the public that the Western Alliance was crumbling and that all human and material resources needed to be mobilized in the fight against the Communists. It was believed among the Ustasha ranks that such a turn of events in the NDH would secure, in terms of their foreign policy, an opportunity for subsequent negotiations with the Western Allies and would be an important argument in deciding the post-war future of the NDH. This was a highly significant task for the propagandist machinery of the Ustasha regime.
