Sažetak
The purpose of this study was to investigate importance of nutrition claims according to sociodemographic variables in representative sample of Croatian adults in age 15 years and over, using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system. Analysis sample consisted of 637 subjects who reported to use nutrition label. The importance of nutrition claims were measured on five-point Likert scale and differences of scores between sociodemographic groups were examined using one-way analysis(ANOVA) and Scheffe's multiple comparison test (alfa=0.05). Participants with lower monthly income, females and older strongly agree that use nutrition claims when choosing among different products in categories, while female and subjects responsible for food purchasing decision strongly agree that use nutrition claims for quality check. Product price could be barriers for buying products with nutrition claims more often among subjects with lowest education level and monthly income. Overall, 66% participants express partly confidence in nutrition claims. These results indicate positive perceptions of consumers towards nutrition claims, especially among specific subgroups, although more research is needed to clarify to what extent consumer can understand and use the nutrition claims in everyday diet.
