Sažetak
Opening accession negotiations on European Union membership leads to new possibilities of cross- border cooperation between Croatia and Serbia. This article analyses institutional and economic challenges of Serbia towards EU integrations based on Croatia’s experience. The role of sub regional economic cooperation is examined within the context of IPA funds. The main goal of the article is to determine the way that IPA funds could contribute to economic development, increase in employment rates and boosting the competitiveness level of cross- border regions. The authors will try to evaluate preconditions necessary for successful cooperation and attempt to draw conclusions and policy implications from the previous IPA funds experiences between Croatia and Serbia. As Croatia has participated in cross- border programmes with Hungary, Slovenia and Italy since 2003, it gathered the necessary level of experience and built the adequate capacities that could help the partners in Serbia.
