Sažetak
Opiorphin is a mature product of the PROL1 (proline rich, lacrimal 1) protein and it demonstrates dual-inhibitory potency on the enkephalin-inactivating ectopeptidases human neutral ecto-endopeptidase (hNEP) and human ectoaminopeptidase (hAP-N). We have developed a reliable method with limited sample manipulation for the determination of opiorphin in human saliva. Results of our pilot study showed reliability and repetability of the method and we showed that opiorphin values do not signifficantly differ from day to day in young healthy individuals, neither between female vs. male subjects. Involving larger populations is needed to understand the correlation between the opiorphin levels and painful symptoms in the oral cavity as well as to understand its role of as a potential biomarker.
