Sažetak
The present research focused on the optimisation of plasma process parameters for achieving hydrophilicity of raw cotton fabrics of defined structural characteristics. For this purpose surface activation of fabrics was carried out using low temperature inductively coupled RF (radio-frequency) plasma system with oxygen as non-polymerising gas. Low pressure inductively coupled plasma was investigated by optical emission spectroscopy and the process parameters for which oxygen concentrations were known have been used. Treatment conditions were optimised by variation of process parameters - working time and the pressure, gas pressure was 0.3 mbar, plasma power up to 250 W and oxygen concentration of 2•1015 cm-3. Cotton samples were prepared according the specific dimensions of vacuum chamber of the applied RF plasma system. Morphological changes were evaluated using SEM microscopy while the changes of chemical properties using viscosimetric method for determining the degree of polymerisation. Hydrophilicity of treated samples was determined by a simple drop test. Results of such treatments indicate that the time of 5 second and the pressure of 0.3 mbar are enough for achieving hydrophilic effects without negative effects on the bulk properties of cellulose material.
