Sažetak
The concept of hip resurfacing arthroplasty was invented long ago, in early 1950s. It seemed that replacing only a minimal part of osteoarthritic hip joint, would be good idea. Very soon problems occured with patient selection issues, operative technique itself, implant design and composition. The failures were frequent and daunting. But the concept survived test of time. With clear indications and contraindications, improved operative technique and modern design and composition, hip replacement arthroplasty became first method in algorithm for treating osteoarthritis of the hip. With much advantages compared to total hip replacement, there are still things to be solved. Major issue is metal wear and its effects in surrounding tissue. The biggest obstacle is contraindication for use in woman of childbearing age who wish to become pregnent due to transplacental crossing of metal ions.
